About Us

Group of seniors and volunteers in a digital literacy workshop in Hong Kong

Our Story

DigiSeniors began in 2018 when Dr. Mei Lin, a retired computer science professor, noticed her elderly neighbors struggling to stay connected with family members who had moved abroad. Recognizing the growing digital divide affecting Hong Kong's senior population, Dr. Lin began offering informal technology lessons from her home in Wan Chai.

What started as small gatherings around Dr. Lin's dining table quickly grew as word spread throughout the community. Within six months, the demand had outgrown her home, and she partnered with local community centers to accommodate more seniors eager to learn. With support from former students and colleagues who volunteered their time, DigiSeniors was officially established as a non-profit organization in early 2019.

Today, DigiSeniors has expanded to multiple locations across Hong Kong, with specialized programs targeting various aspects of digital literacy for elderly residents. Our team has grown to include dedicated staff and over 50 regular volunteers, but our core mission remains the same: to bridge the digital divide and help seniors maintain meaningful connections in an increasingly digital world.

Our Mission & Values

Mission

Our mission is to empower elderly Hong Kong residents with the digital skills needed to stay connected with loved ones, access essential services, and maintain independence in an increasingly digital world. We believe that age should never be a barrier to meaningful participation in society.

Values

  • Patience: We recognize that learning new technology takes time, especially for seniors. Our approach emphasizes patience, repetition, and personalized support.
  • Respect: We honor the wisdom and life experience of our elderly participants while guiding them through new technological territories.
  • Inclusivity: We ensure our programs are accessible to all seniors regardless of background, education level, or prior experience with technology.
  • Practical Focus: We concentrate on teaching skills with immediate, practical applications that enhance daily life and family connections.
  • Community: We foster a supportive community where seniors can learn together, share experiences, and build confidence in their digital abilities.
